Memo: acquisition of ICC Library
Need of the National Freight Transportation Library Regarding the Disposition of the Interstate Commerce Commission Library
SUMMARY: Help is needed in organizing, packing, handling, palletizing, and transporting approximately 60,000 volumes from the Library of the former Interstate Commerce Commission from Washington, D.C. to Colorado, where they will be housed at the University of Denver’s Center for Transportation Studies.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS: Individuals are needed to volunteer their help in the following activities or in supplying the following needed items:
ACTIVITIES:
- Raising funds
- Packing volumes into boxes
- Coordination of packing of volumes in sequence
- Labeling of boxes showing contents
- Numbering of boxes
- Handling of Boxes from 4th Floor Library to Loading area
- Palletization of boxes on pallets
- Shrinkwrapping of pallets
- Number identification of each pallet showing contents
- Loading pallets on vehicles, probably trailers
- Blocking and Bracing, or dunnage placement
- Transportation to Colorado
ITEMS NEEDED:
- Acid-free archival boxes (record storage)
- Acid-free interior packing materials
- Suitable pallets
- Adequate Shrink-wrap
