Re: The ICC’s Library and NTL’s Board Meeting
The agreement has finally been reached between the Surface Transportation Board and the University of Denver’s Center for Transportation Studies to provide a permanent home for the ICC’s library. Simultaneously, we have reached an agreement in principle to locate the National Transportation Library at the same site, with the right to establish other sites as satellite libraries under our name. The University of Denver will, however, have first priority on available materials.
Our immediate need is for funds, volunteers and donors to assist the University of Denver in packing, moving and storing the ICC’s library. This move must be completed by the end of September. Enclosed is a list of our needs. This will be a monumental task, and one which will require much expertise due to the age of the texts.
The University of Denver is sending John Betz with their librarian who will be managing the library, to Washington to survey the job and coordinate the donors of materials, labor and transportation. Bob Ward is organizing volunteers in the Baltimore-Washington transportation community to perform the packing and loading functions. Bob may be reached at 410-355-6400.
John Betz is coordinating all other volunteers and donors of materials and transportation. 303 – 422-4959.
Monetary contributions are greatly needed to purchase cartons, packing materials, labels, tape, shrink wrap, etc. Checks may be sent to Nancy Mason, Treasurer, National Transportation Library, c/o U.S.A. Transportation Services, Inc., P.O. Box 17383, Nashville, TN 37217.
Donations of texts, memorabilia, private collections, manuscripts, etc. are tax-deductible. However, please do not send any more material until we have established a suitable site. Temporary storage will be found if necessary to preserve the materials. In the interim, please send an inventory of materials to be donated, as it will assist us in determining where it should be sent.
Thanks for your continued support. We are finally nearing our goals!
